HISTORY
Monday Night Jazz Ensemble (formerly Friday Night Jazz) was a result of Summer Jazz Camp students asking for more opportunities to study and play jazz.  SJC began in the Summer of 2015 as a part of the Encore Community Music Association, where Monte Leister was directing their guitar ensembles, homeschool and summer jazz programs.
From 2016 to 2021 SJC was proud to call Coffey Music home. In 2022 SJC needed to find a new home (with the closing of Coffey Music) Tone Town Productions has welcomed us with open arms.

THE PROGRAM
Summer Jazz Camp, like Monday Night Jazz Ensemble, gives students the opportunity to play in an environment that encourages experimentation and intense growth, through a focus on learning jazz standards, solo improvisation, analysis of chord progressions and key changes, all while playing together with a group of their peers.

THE DIRECTOR

Monte Leister is a lifelong musician, educator, performer, and worship leader.  Monte models the Summer Jazz Camp and Friday Night Jazz after the ensembles that he was a part of at Towson State where he pursued a degree in Jazz Performance.  With a strong belief that students will rise to the expectation that is set for them, Monte has a unique ability to help students grow exponentially, in a fun, creative, encouraging enviroment.

RECORDING SESSION
On Friday, the students will have the unique opportunity to record the music that they have been learning throughout the week.  This new addition to the program is all thanks to our new home and partner Tone Town Productions.  Recording in a professional recording studio is an experience that your student will not soon forget!
